Rideshare technology built for healthcare

Carepool is a HIPAA compliant, Medicaid certified rideshare platform built for healthcare. We help health plans, providers, and government agencies deliver safe, reliable rides for people who need them most.

Our Story

Carepool began with a simple idea from rural Wisconsin. Inspired by his grandparents, founder and CEO Josh Massey set out to create safe, trusted rides for families. That work led him into state pandemic response, national behavioral health transportation standards, and a new model for inclusive transportation.

Our mission

To make healthcare transportation accessible, reliable, and dignified for every person who needs it.

Our vision

With Carepool available everywhere, older adults and those with medical needs have reliable and affordable transportation so they can stay connected to healthcare and their communities.

The BRET Eco-system

BRET is Carepool's white-label Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) platform. It supports multiple independent instances that can be branded per organization and integrated through direct BRET-to-BRET connections or REST API and webhooks.

The architecture is organized in three tiers:

• Tier 1 — State oversight: audit, compliance, provider oversight
• Tier 2 — Central Carepool platform: trip scheduling, dispatch, driver and passenger management, claims processing, reports and analytics
• Tier 3 — Providers and payers: connect via BRET instances or API/webhook integration

This design supports a mix of BRET-native organizations and external systems, with flexible integration options for providers and Health Systems.

Machine Learning for Optimized Driver Schedules

Carepool's platform uses intelligent scheduling to optimize driver assignment and reduce empty miles. The nightly scheduler automatically assigns drivers based on market, schedule, availability, and distance. Schedule checks validate conflicts and availability before assignment. Trip broker integrations sync trips, status updates, and completion data. Dispatch APIs support nearest-driver lookup, driver assignment, and ride management. The system applies contract-based pricing with base rate, per-mile, booking fee, and minimum mileage—with pricing only applied when a valid contract matches the ride. This approach ensures the right drivers are in the right places at the right times, improving on-time performance and scaling efficiently in both urban and rural service areas.

Agentic AI for Customer Support

Carepool uses agentic AI to handle customer support across chat, email, and phone. Our AI agents can answer common questions, assist with booking changes, provide ride status updates, and escalate complex issues to human representatives when needed. This complements our 24/7 human phone support and redundant telephony—ensuring every rider and partner gets the support they need, whenever they need it. The platform is designed to work with accessible UIs that follow WCAG guidelines for ADA compliance.
